Take out food. I am very grateful that the Chinese restaurant near my house was open on a Sunday. I really did not want to cook tonight so General Taos Chicken and Pork Fried Rice was just what I needed. Now I am so full I can barely move.
A day to rest. I have had a very busy week. I accomplished a lot which is probably why I am so very tired today. It is overcast and drizzly outside and I just don’t want to be motivated at all. I am very grateful that there is not one thing I absolutely must do today. No last minute rush to get an assignment completed, no shopping to do, no places to be. This is a very unique feeling. I really can sit here and do nothing but watch football. Oh my, I could even take a nap. Now, tomorrow will be a horse of a different color. How’s that for a cliche?
God intended that we take time to rest.
Genesis 2:2-3 And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.
Hebrews 4:4; 9-10 For he has somewhere spoken of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all his works.” … So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.
I am very bad about not taking time to rest on Sunday. It is usually packed with things I have procrastinated about during the week. God has been so good helping me to change the way I approach everything so that I am becoming better organized. My house isn’t perfect yet, there is still plenty to do. But, I no longer feel oppressed and overwhelmed by it all.
Thank You God that I can find total, complete rest in your arms. Thank You for rejuvenating me. Thank You that this is how You planned it. You told us that we should work and be busy and productive for six days, staying on top of all we have to do, so that when Sunday comes, rest and communion with You is how we fill our day. I owe my current state of peace to you, so today I will sit still and enjoy this perfect day of rest and rejuvenation.
